Hey there! Hope all is well. I want to hang out with you today to talk about what IS working for you. In the midst of chaos and trouble, have you ever just taken a moment to sit back and think about that one thing that was going right in your life? I mean c’mon, with so much out of order you always need something to help bring balance. Maybe you’re having issues on the job, but your marriage is going well. Or it seems like your child will not stay out of trouble, but your business is booming. Is it just me, or are you at least grateful for that one constant and good thing you have going for you?
Sometimes in life it seems like one thing is going wrong after another. When I’m feeling this way my thoughts go something like this…Surely everything is not crappy. I know something is going well, right? In times like these, I search for that one “RIGHT” thing that is working for me. I start sifting through my life by playing back memories as well as current situations in my head, until I can lock in on that “good thing.” Once I’ve reminded myself of that particular being, I take a moment and reflect on how good it is and how great it makes me feel. I begin to see my issues as having a much smaller role in my life and instead give thanks for that consistency. This process of reflection helps me to stay more focused on the positive rather than give life to the negative.
Once I’m in that headspace, I work harder on releasing the negative thoughts and just focus on that one thing that’s keeping me going. I continue to pray and work on the problem areas, and use my good thing to fuel me. Now what about you? Can you allow yourself to release your thoughts about all the bad going on, so you can identify how/why the good thing is working? This is a great opportunity to take notes and learn from yourself. Maybe that specific situation is going well because you took the time to nurture it. Is it possible that you invested more time for that and have more patience with it? Figure out what makes it work, so you can use that same concept to help you achieve similar success in other areas. While I understand that everything will not always be in alignment, especially not all at the same time, I do believe you can have a lot of things simultaneously going well.
With that being said, I’ll leave you with this…Do you believe you have at least one thing (and hopefully more) that continues to drive you toward positivity and success? If you can’t think of a specific thing, I challenge you to dissect your life and come up with one. Start by creating a list. Write down all of the good and bad that’s happening in your life. Next, using the numbers 1-5, rate each item. 1 means you absolutely love it and 5 means you like it the least. Once you’re finished with your ratings, take a look at your list. I hope that you will have a few options with the number 1 beside them that you can choose from. Then remember those things on the list you have rated so highly, if/when it seems like nothing else is going right. Finally, when you’re feeling stuck and can’t seem to focus on your positive achievements, say the following Serenity Prayer over and over, until it becomes a part of your mentality.
