Before I Formed Thee in the Belly I Knew Thee.

Hey there! Hope all is well. Today during our hang out sesh we’re going to talk about standing firm on what God has called us to be and do. I was reading a story in Our Daily Bread one morning and the scripture given was Jeremiah 1:1-8. The passage that stood out to me was Jeremiah 1:5. It states, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” The particular part of the scripture that really stood out to me was before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee. Things that make you go hmmm…

This section of the passage reminded me that God already had a plan for me before I was even conceived. My mom and dad had not even come together to reproduce when my life was designed for me. Now as I think back on how many times I’ve tried to figure out my next move on my own, it makes me feel as though I’d been stepping out of place. I know I’m not alone on this. Take a moment to reflect and think about all of the decisions you made because you thought they were good ideas. Ever stopped to think that you’re going about things the wrong way? So many of us are know-it-alls. We feel like we have it together. We know the exact move we are supposed to make on any given day, at any given time. However, going forward I will have to remember this day and remind myself who the decision-maker is in my life.

On the other hand, there are times when we see exactly what God has predestined in our lives but we try to run from it. We don’t feel like we measure up. We become afraid. We tell ourselves that we are not good enough. Somehow there is always someone else better for the job. Then we pass those cynical thoughts on to everyone else around us. If they didn’t actually say it or look as if that’s what they are thinking, we say it for them. “They don’t believe I’m capable of doing XYZ.”Also in Jeremiah 1:17, it says, “Be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.” Here the Lord is saying to us, don’t be concerned or worried about what others may look like unless He has given you a reason to be confused in front of them. Sometimes people will look at you funny. They will turn their nose up at you when you speak about being called by God to do a thing. While there are some that like to play with the idea, “God told me to do this,” there are many of us who truly believe in the word of God and sincerely share the assignments He has given us. We take the time to pray and seek God to gain an understanding of the plans that He has for our lives. Just remember, those opinions and ideologies don’t have any say in what God has purposed for you.

As another reminder, in Jeremiah 1:7 the Lord told Jeremiah “whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.” I receive this as God also speaking to me about my life. For the assignment He has tasked me with, He is saying, “Hey, I’ve got you. I had this setup way back when. Now, just follow my command and you will get it done.” That same message is for you too! Maybe you received that you are supposed to be a public speaker or a dancer, or maybe your purpose is to be a teacher. Whatever role you’ve been assigned, don’t be afraid to get it done. Because He is the architect of your plan, you can have courage and know that it will be completed. As it is written in Philippians 1:6 “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. And no one can do anything about it!

Until next time I’ll leave you with this. Stop trying to make a path when one has already been created for you. Take time to speak with God, hear His voice, believe His Word, and move the way He has instructed you to do. Don’t allow anyone that doesn’t believe to tell you differently! God said, “When I move you move, just like that.” Oh wait, that was Ludacris, but you get my point. LOL! Remember, He had this together before you were in the womb, so wait until He tells you to go, then go forth! Be blessed!!!
